Blog Challenge, Day 15: If I Could Be Any Animal

I'd definitely be a penguin. They've been my favorite animals for about 8 years now and I love them to pieces! I mean, seriously, how could anyone not love them? They're adorable!

But aside from the fact that they are exploding with cuteness, they are also fascinating creatures!

  • Penguins see better underwater than they do on land, which helps them find their prey easier.

  • Some species of penguins can live up to 20 years.
  • When a male penguin is ready to mate, he stands with his wings outstretched and head back, then begins a mating call while strutting to attract females.

  • When a penguin finds a mate, they rub necks together and then "sing" to each other to learn each other's voices.
  • Male penguins watch the nest after the female has laid the egg.
  • When a baby penguin is born, it calls its parents to help them learn its voice.

  • Penguins do not have teeth but they do have spines in their tongues.
  • Penguins spend hours of their day taking care of their feathers because if they didn't keep them maintained, they would not stay waterproof.
